Google’s Prizes.org to shut down in 6 months

NEW DELHI: Prizes.com, a product that Google acquired when it took over Slide, is set to be terminated over the next six months. A crowdsourcing project, this website provided a platform where users could create contests to solve their problems and the winners would win cash prizes.

However, it will be phased out by early next year by Google since it "isn't experiencing the kind of adoption we had hoped for."

By July 13, the search giant will cease the account as well as prize creation. Users would be able to export their entries on Prizes.org from July 31, 2012 and will have until January 31, 2013 to encash their credits through PayPal.

From January 31, 2013, Google will stop supporting Prizes.org accounts on the Internet, Android and iOS. The company has already provided users with the provision to disable their accounts.

The end of this project would mark the termination of all products that came to Google through the acquisition of Slide.
